Imero was born in Northern Italy in 1923. He graduated as Master of Art at the Art Institute of Venice, before going on for post-graduate studies at the Academies of Fine Art of Milan and Venice. Painting has been central to his life for more than 60 years, and has evolved into masterful and joyful celebrations of life.
The technique used in these paintings is that of Neo-Impressionism, which although a direct descendant of Impressionism, differs from it. Where the Impressionist impulsively paints the scene in front of him, the Neo-Impressionist first absorbs the mood, relates it to previous experiences, and puts in on the canvas using a more symbolic choice of colors. He breaks color into its basic elements, and puts them on the canvas in thousands of separate brushstrokes. From a distance the multiple colors form an optical mixture of color.
My paintings allow me to express a certain philosophy of life, an almost mystic approach to life, a religiosity of life...my Neo-Impressionistic paintings, they express a joy. You'd be surprised how many people tell me that. ~Imero Gobbato
